AALA
In 1996 it became a legal requirement under The Activity Centres (Young Persons' Safety) Act 1995 for providers of certain adventure activities to undergo inspection of their safety management systems and become licensed.
BPE is licensed provider of specified adventure activities to young people under the age of 18 years pursuant to the Activity Centres (Young Persons Safety) Act 1995 and the Adventure Licensing Regulations 2004.

ATOL
ATOL is a protection scheme for flights and air holidays, managed by the Civil Aviation Authority (“CAA”). Most firms who sell air travel in the UK are required by law to hold a licence called an Air Travel Organiser’s Licence (“ATOL”).

Young Explorers Trust
The YET is an independent, nationally based, educational charity seeking to promote safe and responsible expeditions. In so doing it aims to give young people the opportunity to take part in exploration, discovery and challenging adventure to help foster the personal qualities of service, self-sufficiency and leadership.

Expedition Providers Association
EPA is an autonomous sub-committee within YET, made up of YET members. The Association is accountable to its members and Board and has a mandate to act as an advisory and implementation body in the field of Youth Expeditions under the constitution of the Young Explorers Trust.
The EPA membership is made up of expedition providers catering for young adults under 25 in full-time education. Expeditions are defined as a 1 - 8 week experience involving overseas travel, adventurous activities and cultural exposure.
EPA has become more recognised within the wider industry, and was at the forefront of helping to create BS8848, and also the EVAC badge for overseas expeditions

Duke of Edinburgh Award
BPE Ltd is recognised as a D of E award access organisation for the Expedition section and is responsible for maintaining the Awards principles and standards and is authorised to issue access credits in accordance with the agreement

Specifications for the provision of visits, fieldwork, expeditions and adventurous activities outside the UK
BPE aims to ensure that all its expeditions adhere to BS 8848.
Each expedition is self assessed to the standards set out by BS 8848
